Lowell has no love of Kerouac nor any for its previous culture nor of its industrial past ( visit Lawrence for industrial authenticity ) Lowell has put all its marks on the U-Mass Lowell juggernaut. This will, sad to say, necessitate the sacrifice of just about all its past, and previous rich culture as an immigrant informed city.

There is no turning back now. The die is cast. The hoped for future will be to become a college town, consumed by the institution... Just as Amherst is now but an adjunct to U-Mass Amherst.
