Although you'll hear the mid-1960s music of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop and Dean Martin, Sandy Hackett's "Rat Pack Show" is more than just a tribute show.
"It's more of a theatrical production," Hackett said in a phone interview. The touring production will be at the Grand Opera House the night before New Year's Eve.
"It pays homage to all these wonderful talents," Hackett said. "It's not impersonators but actors with the abilities to sing and bring back the essence."
Hackett's father was the late comedian Buddy Hackett. "Before he passed away, he recorded a voice-over of God," Hackett said. "'I'm sending you guys back,'" he added. "God sends them back to do one last show."
The cast includes Sandy Hackett's wife, Lisa Dawn Miller Hackett, as Frank's love. "She's the femme fatale," Hackett said.
The show includes audience interaction. "We talk to them, we play and banter with them. We ask them questions. We allow flash photography. No video. Nobody else does that. We'll even stop and make sure they get their picture."
He described the show, based at the Las Vegas Hilton, as a crowd pleaser.
"The show has been well-received. It's been performed for a million people," he said. "You don't even have to be a fan of these guys."
The show is sponsored in part by DB&T Excursions.
